(ECNS) - Authorities at Mount Huashan, one of the Five Great Mountains of China, said a tourist was suspected of committing suicide by plunging off a cliff on July 24.
Video footage shows the man, wearing white and gray clothes and a hat, untied his safety belt and jumped from the middle part of Changkong Plank Road built along cliffs on the mountainside on Tuesday afternoon, according to a statement on the scenic area’s Weibo account.
Preliminary investigations indicated that he committed suicide at the mountain located near the city of Huayin in Shaanxi Province.
According to the statement, the identity of the tourist is currently being verified and a search is underway. Authorities are also looking for reasons why he took his own life.
