(ECNS) - Chinese online group discounter Pinduoduo, which made a successful IPO on the Nasdaq stock exchange on July 26, said it has become the target of massive online trolling and asked national Internet authorities for help.
Jing Ran, spokesperson for Pinduoguo, said the company welcomes criticisms in good faith but the truth is that "it's receiving unprecedented waves of online attacks."
Jing also said gossip about Pinduoduo spread over social media has gone viral because of Internet trolls. After mainstream media picked up the rumors, reports were edited and received new headlines, then shared again, creating a communication farce that looked like mainstream media was the first to report the rumors and only further instigated online outcries, it was added.
The company that allows consumers to group together to get better discounts from merchants has never sold most of the fabricated knockoff brands as alleged on social media, said Jing.
“Commercial competition should also have a bottom line. We feel chilled and terrified to see the powerful online opinions mobilized in just days,” said Jing, adding no e-commerce platform is sustainable if its products are cheap copycat items.
