(ECNS) - China's market regulation authorities have started an investigation into the alleged sale of counterfeit products by the online group discounter Pinduoduo, listed on the Nasdaq stock exchange.
The Internet supervision section of the State Administration for Market Regulation said it noticed media reports over possible fake products on the platform and demanded Shanghai Administration Bureau for Industry and Commerce summon a meeting with Pingduoduo.
Industrial, commercial and market supervision departments in Shanghai are also required to launch investigations into alleged sale of cheap copycat items and copyright infringement.
Whether it is the platform itself or shops on the portal, violators will be punished according to law, said the Internet supervision section.
Pinduoduo revealed on Tuesday that it has become the target of massive online trolling and has never sold most of the knockoff brands as alleged on social media.
