(ECNS) - A court in Dalian City of Liaoning Province has decided the 181464.32-yuan ($26,680) inheritance of a man who died alone will go to the state after no direct relatives were found.
Xu Zhanwu, who was born in 1932, lived in a dormitory in the Liujiaqiao community of Shahekou District, Dalian City. He was divorced and had no children, so the local community looked after him from April 2003 until his death in Aug. 2016.
Residents of the Liujiaqiao community repeatedly tried to find and contact his relatives, but all efforts ended in vain. Xu died with savings of more than 180,000 yuan in his bank account.
The people’s court in Shahekou issued an announcement on the unclaimed assets in the People's Court Daily on Aug. 21 last year and, since then, had not found any of his relatives. On Aug 22, the court declared the savings to become state-owned.
