Marriage certificates are more than documents to prove marital status as they are also used in civil affairs such as applying for home purchase loans, property transfers, and property notarization.
Local newspapers reported the digital marriage certificate will be applied in different scenarios.
Zou Liang, vice-president of Ant Financial, said many cities already offer various electronic certificates for social security and driving licenses, and Alipay along with more institutes will contribute the digitization of more legal documents.
