(ECNS) - About 62.5 percent of singles in China prefer to own property before getting married, said a report by Chinese classified advertising site 58.com.
The report on unmarried people’s consumer habits showed the three main reasons to buy a home is to live on their own, get married and then use it for their parents in advanced years.
It showed 60.2 percent of respondents already had their first home and 61.6 percent already purchased a car.
Over 44 percent of singles in first-tier cities, mainly Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen and Guangzhou, and 55.8 percent in newly emerged cities thought that men should pay the down payment, with housing loans shared by both men and women.
Nearly 80 percent of single people surveyed said they will take funds from their parents to buy their own home and 65.1 percent said they will pay them back. A little more than 22 percent declined parental help in buying a home.
For car purchases, half those aged 26 to 30 in first-tier cities want to buy a car before they are 30. Due to traffic in big cities, 46.6 percent prefer sedans, while in newly emerging cities over half like SUVs.
Zhang Bo, chief analyst at 58.com’s property research unit, said data shows the desire for “quality living” among single people in China who want better houses and cars.
