(ECNS) - More than 1,000 people participated in an ice and snow event in Huma County, Northeast China's Heilongjiang Province on Saturday amid celebrations for the traditional solstice festival.
Despite the snow, participants stood on frozen Jixiang Lake in the shape of giant letters HM, an abbreviation of the county's name. They later sprayed water into the cold air to create cloud-like ice particles, bringing laughter and joy to everyone.
Zhang Yue, a resident of the county, said she was very excited to join the activity as it best showcased the county’s unique winter charms as a land of ice and snow.
To have the best visual effect, participant Li Wanru said people needed to squat a little bit, spray the water from a bottle from the lowest point to the highest in the shape of a half-circle.
The traditional Chinese lunar calendar divides the year into 24 solar terms. Winter Solstice is the 22nd solar term of the year. This year it began on Dec. 22 and will end on Jan. 4.
Zhang Jianing, who also participated the event, said joining others to play with ice is great fun, allowing her to leave all troubles behind and embrace tomorrow with a good spirit.
