(ECNS) -- The master plan for the Xiongan New Area 2018-2035, recently approved by the State Council, sets out to develop a futuristic region, according to experts.
High-quality, low-carbon development is emphasized, as well as the positioning of Xiongan as both a new wing of Beijing—with Beijing's subsidiary center in Tongzhou District the other wing—and a wing of Hebei Province.
In addition, the plan said Xiongan should seize the opportunity created by the 2022 Winter Olympics and promote integrated development in the broader Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region.
Jia Jinjing, the assistant to the president of the Chongyang Institute for Financial Studies at Renmin University of China, said the plan outlines Xiongan’s special role to Beijing and Hebei, which will reshape the overall development of northern China.
Xiongan will become a test field and role model for the application of innovative development ideas and technologies for China's new-generation cities. As an example, the construction of the Xiongan New Area Citizen Service Center has already put into use more than 30 advanced development approaches, including Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM).
Wang Kai, vice president of the China Academy of Urban Planning and Design, said Xiongan will build itself into a smart region through the extensive use of Big Data, artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, and the Future Internet.
Li Guoping, president of the Beijing Development Institute at Peking University, said the key to Xiongan’s construction is how to attract talent and introduce high-end industries while building an urban environment.
