(ECNS) - Authorities in Beijing plan to give a strong thrust to nightlife amid a push for growth in consumption.

Beijing encourages key neighborhoods and shopping malls, supermarkets and convenience stores to extend business hours in the nighttime. It also invites global brands to open their first Chinese stores in the capital city.

The city will introduce a slew of measures to boost consumption, which covers fashion, information, health care, culture, sports and other sectors, said Beijing mayor Chen Jining at the second session of the 15th Beijing Municipal People's Congress on Monday.

Beijing will enhance the quality of its service industry through measures such as creating 10 featured blocks designed to demonstrate development and also 100 chain enterprises that will become famous brands, said Chen.

It will improve Wangfujing, one of China's most famous shopping streets, and transform traditional business zones and enterprises.

Beijing will further develop information-related consumption and launch a cross-border e-commerce pilot zone. Unique hotels will be built in suburban areas as part of efforts to develop rural tourism.

Private funds will be supported to engage in health and elderly care while the city increases the scope for development of the consumption industry.
