(ECNS) -- China mobile has started to phase out its TD-SCDMA 3G base stations, first in East China's Fujian Province, as the country moves rapidly from 4G to the 5G era.
The Radio Administration Bureau in Fuzhou City, capital of Fujian Province, stated it has approved the mobile carrier's application to stop use of 6,535 TD-SCDMA stations and revoke its previous license.
The bureau announced in February that it would make preparatory efforts for development of 5G base stations and regulate their construction.
With rapid development of the 5G network in China, insiders said it's an inevitable trend to close down the entire 3G network, possibly before 2020.
