(ECNS) -- China Telecom has begun installing a waste recycling system in Shanghai that instantly rewards people for correctly sorting their garbage.
The telecom carrier showcased the system at the Mobile World Congress 2019, which runs from June 26 to 28 in Shanghai.
Residents must place garbage into different containers in the system, which then calculates payments according to market prices and reimburses residents immediately.
A new regulation on household garbage sorting and recycling will come into effect on July 1 in Shanghai. Residents who flout rules may face fines ranging from 50 yuan ($7.3) to 200 yuan.
