(ECNS) -- Chinese men are more satisfied with their marriages than their female counterparts, according to the Blue Paper on Chinese Social Mentality released by the social psychology research center under Chinese Academy of Social Sciences Thursday.
Data shows socioeconomic status and marital satisfaction are positively correlated, with those more family-oriented more satisfied with their marriage and those more materialistic less so.
Men over 50 enjoy higher marital satisfaction, while residents of first-tier cities showing the least marital satisfaction, it stated.
Men in first-tier cities bear significantly higher pressure in terms of housing, income, supporting the elderly, child education and employment than those in other regions, while those with a monthly income of 7,000 yuan or less are under greater pressure in first-tier cities, according to data.
Mental health among Chinese women is higher than men's, the paper stated. Women are more adaptable to the environment, more able to feel harmony in intimate relationships and more clear about life goals.
