(ECNS) -- The first China International Consumer Products Expo is being held from May 7 to 10 in south China's Hainan Province.
National-level events such as the China Import and Export Fair, the China International Import Expo (CIIE), and the China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS), are eyeing China's policy of opening up to the outside world. On the heels of those fairs, what's new at the Expo?
The Canton Fair mainly focuses on the export of goods, the CIIE on importing products and services, the CIFTIS on the opening of the service industry, while the Consumer Products Expo is positioned as a global display and trade platform for international quality products, said Vice Minister of Commerce Wang Bingnan.
"Consumption is different from production. It only takes a few days for enterprises to make deals at the Canton Fair, CIIE, or CIFTIS and form a long-term effect. However, it will take time to build Hainan Province into an international tourism consumption center, which means Hainan has to be in the 'peak season' of consumption all year round,” said Wei Hao, professor at the Business School of Beijing Normal University.
"The expo will create an opportunity for global high-quality products to enter the Chinese market. The advantages of zero tariffs and lower tax rates at the Hainan Free Trade Port ensure the lowest costs for imported goods. It is also a platform to display and trade high quality products," said Zhao Ping, associate dean of the Academy of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade.
"Countries worldwide are welcome to seize opportunities in China's development, share in the Chinese market, boost global prosperity, and provide new drives for world economic recovery," said Wang.
