(ECNS) -- China plans to launch a national carbon market by the end of June, said Liu Youbin, spokesman for the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, on Tuesday.
China's carbon market covers more than 4 billion tons of emissions, making it the world's largest carbon platform to cover greenhouse gas emissions, Liu said.
Online trading simulation and real capital testing have been completed.
Since 2011, China has carried out pilot carbon emission trading in Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai, Chongqing, Hubei, Guangdong, and Shenzhen.
The ministry has rolled out examination on carbon emission data submitted by enterprises from eight industries, including steel, chemical and papermaking, since 2013.
