(ECNS) -- Beijing unveiled the official 2022 Olympic and Paralympic uniforms for staff, technical officials and volunteers Wednesday, with new materials and techniques ensuring they are as light and warm as possible.
According to Yan Cheng, HR manager of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, the uniforms should be resistant to the cold and wind, breathable, warm and light.
Such requirements presented a great challenge in choosing the proper materials, tackled by Xie Chunlong, general manager of Anta's Olympics Group. Xie chose composite high-performance membrane to make the outfits wind- and waterproof while thin and flexible, and heat-gathering cotton, a new material for keeping warm with independent patent technology, to store heat for a long period of time.
Compared to older counterparts, these new materials have been proved to fare better in heat prevention loss efficiency, added Xie.
In addition, waterproof goose down feathers, heat reflection technology, skin-friendly and quick-drying materials have also been adopted to meet various demands.
The uniform design was selected from 600 options and has been optimized eight times, making them suitable to different working scenarios and climate conditions, explained Yan.
The uniforms embody excellent cultural connotations and technological elements, and will be the symbol of both China and the Winter Olympic Games, it was added.
