(ECNS) -- China is training railway professionals in Laos by helping construct a local vocational and technical college to ensure the long-term operation of the China-Laos Railway, which will open in December this year.
As the only inland country in southeast Asia, Laos only operates a 3.5-kilometer-long railway and is in great demand of technicians. Laos Railway Vocational and Technical College in the country's capital Vientiane, with support from China, serves to train professionals for China-Laos Railway.
In this project, China's Kunming Railway Vocational and Technical College, located in Kunming, the north starting point of China-Laos Railway, will help Laos with educational capacity construction and technology cooperation. It also hired Laotian teachers to teach local students in their mother language.
Benefiting from the Belt and Road Initiative, China-Laos Railway connects Kunming in Yunan Province and Vientiane and is the first international railway mainly invested by China and that uses Chinese technical standards and equipment.
