(ECNS) -- China's third-party mobile and online payment platform Alipay has achieved nationwide mutual QR code recognition for receiving payments from China UnionPay, a Chinese financial services corporation that provides bank card services.
Alipay, together with China UnionPay, also made its QR code available to 28 banks and financial institutions like Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, Bank of China, China Construction Bank and Mi Pay.
Users can scan Alipay's QR code to pay bills by using bank mobile apps, the Cloud Quick Pass of China UnionPay, and other financial institutions.
Alipay and China UnionPay began jointly exploring barcode payment interconnectivity in 2020 and has piloted the service in many cities like Beijing, Tianjin, Chengdu, Chongqing, Guangzhou and Shenzhen before rolling out nationwide.
In the future, Alipay will work closely with China UnionPay and other partners in exploringmore scenarios to boost payment interconnectivity and contribute to a more open and shared digital ecosystem, Alipay said.
In addition, WeChat Pay and China UnionPay also realized mutual recognition and scanning of their barcodes.
Users can scan WeChat's payment codesby using the Cloud Quick Pass to recharge Q Coin, QQ Music and Tencent Video. The Cloud Quick Pass payment service will be gradually made available for WeChat mini apps.
