ECNS) -- Yinchuan, capital of northwest China’s Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, is determined to become “China’s New silicon capital”, according to news released at a press conference by local government officials on Sunday.
On silicon industry development, Yinchuan will give its full play to its advantages in resources, technology, industry, innovation, market and policy, and accelerating high-quality development of new materials industry, the news showed.
The city decided to develop advanced materials as its key industry in 2020.
With strong sunlight, large temperature difference, sufficient wind power, and rare disasters, Yinchuan has unique advantages in developing new materials like photovoltaics, industrial sapphire crystals, semiconductor, copper alloy and graphene, according to local officials.
It brought in leading domestic photovoltaic enterprises like LONGi and Ningxia XN Automation Equipment Co., Ltd. to improve the industrial chain, according to Zhao Xuhui, mayor of Yinchuan.
During the 14th Five-Year Plan, Yinchuan is set to raise the output value of the photovoltaic silicon industry to more than 70 billion yuan, the sapphire industry to more than 10 billion yuan, the 3rd-generation semiconductor industry to more than 10 billion yuan, energy storage battery and energy storage materials industry to more than 80 billion yuan, and graphite and graphene materials industry to more than 3 billion yuan, added Zhao.
In 2021, the output value of the advanced material industry in Yinchuan had reached 25.9 billion yuan (around $4.1 billion), a year-on-year growth of 92 percent.
