(ECNS) -- The detection method is not to blame for previous unstable nucleic acid test (NAT) results of athletes, as all the testings were conducted in accordance with standard procedures, said an official for COVID-19 prevention and control during the Beijing Olympic Winter Games.
Huang Chun, deputy director general of the Pandemic Prevention and Control Office of the Winter Games made the remarks at a press conference Sunday.
According to Huang, NAT result instability was caused by intermittent detoxification of the virus.
"We'll evaluate each positive case every day. As long as an athlete's testing result complies with the prevention and control manual or new policies of COVID-19 testing, he or she will be allowed to end the quarantine and return to competition in time, " Huang explained.
"The pandemic risk is generally under control as the event has passed half-way point, and the Coivd prevention and control has been successful so far, " said Huang.
"We are going to further implement the prevention and control measures and abide by the instructions of the manual. We would never be off our guard since the pandemic can still spread within the closed-loop," the official added.
