(ECNS) -- Shanyao Railway Port in Hekou, southwest Yunnan Province, has witnessed 306 international intermodal trains with a total of 92,253 tons of goods transported as of Thursday in 2022, according to the Station of Exit-Entry Frontier Inspection of Hekou Port.
Since the COVID-19 outbreak, Shanyao International Intermodal Railway has seen a steady increase of import and export freight volume. In 2022, it has transported 34,390 tons of imported goods and 57,863 tons of exported goods.
As China's first international railway, Shanyao International Intermodal Railway was put into operation on March 31, 1910. It has been serving as the passage of goods exchange between China and countries on the China-Indochina Peninsula as well as the connectivity corridor between southwest China with Vietnam.
With effective anti-pandemic measures to prevent the import of COVID-19 cases, Hekou frontier inspection station has ensured the safe and smooth import and export of goods like iron ore, coke and sulfur, and boosted the local economic development.
