(ECNS) -- Construction of a new building at Sanxingdui Museum began on Tuesday in Guanghan, Deyang, southwest China's Sichuan province.
The new building is located in the Sanxingdui Museum park with a floor area of 55,000 square meters, five times the size of the old one.
The design of the project is using building information modeling technology and parametric modeling technology.
The latest smart construction site technology, artificial intelligence, sensing technology, virtual reality and Internet of Things technology will be used to help the construction.
"We plan to build a world-leading museum as well as a national archaeological site park, and make it a cultural mark of China to show our development history," said Wang Juzhong, director of the management commission of the Sanxingdui Ruins site.
With a total investment of 1.433 billion yuan (about $224.7 million), the new building consists of two parts: the main project that will be completed within a year and the exhibition project that is expected to be finished in October 2023.
Except for cultural relics unearthed from the No.1 and No.2 pits of the Sanxingdui Ruins site, the new building will exhibit new findings of future excavation projects.
