(ECNS) – The National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai) will be transformed into a makeshift hospital with more than 40,000 beds, according to local authorities on Tuesday.
Workers have begun construction on Tuesday night. They are required to hold negative nucleic acid testing result within 48 hours before entering the site.
As the largest makeshift hospital in Shanghai, part of it is expected to be completed on Friday.
Li Qiang, Party Committee Secretary of Shanghai, came to check the design scheme and the construction progress on the day. The official then extended gratitude to all medical workers and asked them to guarantee the living materials of citizens.
Shanghai reported 311 new COVID-19 cases and 16,766 new asymptomatic cases on Tuesday, the local government said on Wednesday. The city has reported 3,639 local cases and 82,221 local asymptomatic cases as of Tuesday.
