(ECNS) -- Beijing reported 32 locally transmitted confirmed COVID-19 cases and one local asymptomatic carrier on Monday, local authorities said Tuesday.
Beijing will conduct three rounds of nucleic acid testing in 11 areas from Tuesday to Saturday in efforts to contain the spread of COVID-19, said Xu Hejian, spokesperson of the municipal government of Beijing, at a press conference.
A total of 73 local infections have been reported as of Monday night.
Many people rushed to stock up on food amid the resurgence of the virus.
In response to the temporary consumption surge, Beijing requires key supermarkets to stock up at more than three times their daily norm.
The supply of goods remains stable in seven major agricultural wholesale markets in Beijing, said Zhao Weidong, deputy director of Beijing Municipal Bureau of Commerce on Monday.
Reserves can meet the consumption needs of the city's residents for 30 days, he added.
