(ECNS) -- China and the U.S., two permanent members of the UN Security Council, should work together with the international community for an early political settlement of the Ukraine crisis, said a spokesperson for the Chinese Embassy in the U.S.
The spokesperson made the remarks on Wednesday in response to a statement issued by the U.S. State Department on Monday, which claimed that Chinese officials and media “routinely amplify Kremlin propaganda, conspiracy theories, and disinformation” on the Ukraine issue. They rationalize Russia's unjustified and unprovoked war against Ukraine and show China's support for Russia.
China's position on the Ukraine issue is impartial, objective and beyond reproach, said the spokesperson, adding that the U.S. should seriously reflect on itself.
It is the U.S. officials and media who have spread such rumors, including that China knew in advance and tacitly supported Russia’s military actions, such as helping Russia evade sanctions and providing military support. This is disinformation in every sense of the word, said the spokesperson.
The spokesperson also called for a ceasefire as soon as possible, increasing humanitarian assistance to Ukraine and protecting civilians, strengthening coordination for greater world energy, food and supply chain security.
“Blaming and smearing just won't solve the problem,” the spokesperson said.
