(ECNS) -- Business activities and everyday life in Shanghai are expected to gradually return to normal next month, according to a three-phase plan announced at a press conference on Monday.
Phase one, which runs to May 21, aims to further reduce new Covid infections and prevent rebounds, with the number of people in lock down and controlled zones shrinking, said Zong Ming, deputy mayor of Shanghai.
Phase two will be focused on the city's transition from emergency response to normalized epidemic prevention and control. It is expected to run from May 22 to May 31.
Phase three, which will begin on June 1, aims to fully normalize daily life and business activities.
From May 16, Taxis and private cars can pass through some districts which have achieved zero COVID-19 community transmissions, such as Jinshan and Fengxian or some towns in Pudong New Area. The number of trains leaving and arriving in Shanghai will gradually increase.
From May 22, buses and rail services will resume operation gradually.
Shanghai reported 77 confirmed and 746 asymptomatic cases on Monday.
By Monday, 15 out of the 16 districts in Shanghai had achieved zero new infections outside quarantine and lockdown populations.
