Shanghai to eradicate termites door to door in June

(ECNS) -- All 54 termite control companies in Shanghai will eradicate termites door to door based on residents' appointments after the city resumes work in June, according to its Property Management Affairs Center.

Shanghai witnesses a peak of flying and breeding termites every May and June as a result of rising temperatures and humidity. The number of termites this year was almost the same as that of previous years, which is still controllable at present, said the Shanghai Property Management Affairs Center on Monday.

Different from the "four pests" (rats, flies, mosquitoes, and sparrows), termites are harmless to humans and do not transmit diseases, so residents do not need to panic, it was added.

The "962121" property service hotline and the contact number of the 54 termites control enterprises were kept open 24 hours a day, said the center, adding that if there was an emergency like termite damage to a house, staff would be immediately dispatched to eliminate the pests.

If the situation was not urgent, residents' demands would be recorded and staff eradicate termites door to door in June.

Experts suggest that if residents find a small number of termites flying into the house, just kill them or vacuum them up. If the number is large, close the doors and windows, turn off all lights, open a lamp on the table, and put a basin of soapy water under it, the termites will then be trapped and killed in the soapy water.
