(ECNS) -- A medical team aiding Shanghai in the fight against COVID-19 received a water salute at Nanning Wuxu International Airport in Southern China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region on Monday after completing its mission.
During the 46 days in Shanghai, the team with 1,584 medical workers has completed more than 320,000 times of nucleic acid sampling. As of Friday, it has taken over five makeshift hospitals and four designated (sub-designated) hospitals, treating 10,456 patients, among whom the oldest is 101 years old and the youngest five months old. And its asymptomatic infections and confirmed cases reported zero deaths.
The team has 271 doctors, 1,285 nurses, 3 pharmacists, 18 medical technicians, and seven managers. Nearly one-third of its backbones once aided Hubei, Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, and abroad.
The medical team next will summarize the experience of medical treatment in Shanghai, and compile a working manual to provide a reference for the construction of makeshift hospitals and sub-designated hospitals currently underway.
In early March, Shanghai witnessed a new wave of infections caused by Omicron variants. On May 17, the city announced it had cut off community transmission of COVID-19 in all of its 16 districts. And the city will gradually resume production and life order in an all-round way from Wednesday.
