(ECNS) -- A newly found ancient tomb of the late Spring and Autumn Period (770 BC - 476 BC) in the north of Taosi Village, Xiangfen County, Shanxi Province was confirmed to belong to a pregnant noble.
The owner of the tomb is a woman in her early thirties, with the skull of the fetus visible in her abdomen, its gestational age speculated at eight months.
A total of 134 sets of objects were unearthed from the tomb, with most being bronze wares and the rest, lead-tin, jade stone, bone, and pottery, etc.
The tomb is 6.5 meters long, 5.4 meters wide, and 9.8 meters deep. The wooden coffin has already decayed.
According to Wang Jingyan, the person in charge of the excavation, the tomb indicates a stone-stacked burial, a symbol of the owner’snoble identity. Together with five unearthed Ding wares, the tomb was confirmed to belong to a spouse of a Shi Da Fu (a noble official in ancient China).
A total of 1,283 ancient tombs were found here in 2014 and 2015.
