(ECNS) -- China’s Ministry of Education has approved the official establishment of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou), the third cooperative university between the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), the ministry announced Wednesday.
Located in Nansha District, southern China’s Guangzhou City, it offers undergraduate, master and doctoral programs under the management of the Guangdong Provincial People's Government.
The school offers three majors for the first batch of undergraduates, which are artificial intelligence, data science and big data technology, and intelligent manufacturing engineering. For master’s and doctoral education, it offers 15 majors including advanced materials, intelligent transportation, and microelectronics.
The university is a cooperative educational institution, with a legal personality, organized by Guangzhou University and Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.
The establishment of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou) will promote the country’s comprehensive reform of higher education and the integrated development of education in the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong. It will also serve the growth of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, it was noted.
Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou) is the third Chinese mainland-Hong Kong cooperative university approved by the Ministry of Education. The first two are Beijing Normal University-Hong Kong Baptist University United International College established in 2005, and the Chinese University of Hong Kong (Shenzhen)established in 2014.
