(ECNS) -- China will establish a Flying Disc League and hold its first competition in August, the country’s General Administration of Sports announced Thursday.
Grassroots communities, enterprises, institutions, social groups, and schools can form teams to take part in the competition.
Flying disc is quickly gaining steam in China and has become an important part of the country’s national fitness campaign, said the administration.
According to the Top Ten Life Trends 2022 released by a Chinese social platform, flying disc-related content in 2021 increased by six times year on year.
Data from a Chinese travel site shows that among the community activities held by the platform, flying disc is the weekend activity with the highest repurchase rate and the most popularity among the "post-90s" generation.
"In terms of the construction of new sports venues and facilities in Beijing in the future, we will give more consideration to the individual needs of young people," said Zhao Wen, director of the Beijing Municipal Sports Bureau.
Ultimate Frisbee was officially listed in April as a compulsory education curriculum and an emerging sport by China’s Ministry of Education.
Flying disc is an outdoor team event that is friendly to all. It is easy to play, with no physical contact or prior experience needed.
