(ECNS) -- China's total grain output has reached 147.39 million tons in this year's summer harvest, up 1.434 million metric tons from last year, a year-on-year increase of 1.0 percent, data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) shows.
The output of wheat reached 135.76 million tons, up 1.286 million tons, an increase of one percent year on year.
China's planting area and output per hectare of summer grains both saw expansions compared to 2021, the NBS said.
The planting area of summer grains in China stands at 26,530 thousand hectares, an increase of 92.1 thousand hectares, up 0.3 percent over the previous year, achieving growth for two consecutive years.
Among them, the planting area of wheat is 22,962 thousand hectares, an increase of 50.8 thousand hectares, up 0.2 percent.
Wang Guirong, an NBS official, attributed the higher summer grain harvest to the country’s grain planting subsidies, favorable weather conditions, and the promotion of high-quality seeds and farmlands.
