(ECNS) -- China has invested 14.8 trillion yuan (about $21.26 billion) into various types of affordable housing and shanty area reconstruction projects over the past 10 years, according to a press conference held Wednesday.
It covers 59 million sets of housing built for 140 million Chinese people, including recipients of subsistence allowance and low-income families facing housing difficulties.
The country has historically solved housing problems for 23.416 million poverty-stricken households registered and filed in China's rural areas in the past 10 years, said Jiang Wanrong, vice minister of housing and urban-rural development.
More than 50,000 distinctive villages have been built and over 90 percent of domestic garbage in villages have been collected and processed in China in the past decade, Jiang added.
A total of 6,819 localities have been included on the list of traditional villages in China while520 thousand cultural relics, historical buildings, traditional houses, temples and ancestral halls have been preserved in the past 10 years, it was concluded.
