(ECNS) -- Shanghai has officially allowed road testing and commercial operation of intelligent connected vehicles (ICVs) in the Pudong New Area.
On Wednesday, five 17-meter-long trucks were seen driving on the right side of the Donghai Bridge at a speed of nearly 80 kilometers per hour. The heavy trucks kept a distance of 20 meters between each other, and there was no one in the three middle trucks.
The intelligent heavy trucks no longer need labor force, said Zhang Xianhong, Yangshan Port intelligent heavy truck project chief architect.
The five intelligent trucks running on the Donghai bridge can improve traffic efficiency by at least 40 percent and save labor costs by about 80 percent.
