(ECNS) -- Generalization of the concept of national security and the politicization of economic and trade investment by the U.S. violate market economy principles and international trade rules, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said at a regular news briefing on Friday.
Miao had responded to several states in the U.S. considering the restriction of real estate purchases by Chinese citizens on the grounds of national security.
It is also detrimental to confidence in the American market environment, Mao added.
The essence of China-U.S. economic and trade cooperation is mutual benefit, said Mao. Over the years, Chinese companies' investment in the U.S. has made important contributions to promoting local employment and economic development, she said.
