(ECNS) --Hong Kong Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu stated on Wednesday that he values and recognizes the contribution made by women and hopes to provide stronger support and assistance for their development.
International Women's Day falls on Wednesday this year. Lee posted on social media to relay his warmest regards and appreciation to his female colleagues and all women in Hong Kong.
He pointed out that in the Policy Address, he announced that Hong Kong will substantially increase funding for organising activities to promote women development by the Women's Commission from 4 million HKD to 10 million HKD per annum.
"A Women Empowerment Fund will be set up to subsidize community projects. It was recently announced in the Budget that we will set aside 100 million HKD to strengthen support for women's development," he said.
"Since the current-term government took office, the funding for the Women Empowerment Fund has been raised fivefold from 4 million HKD to 20 million HKD per annum," he added.
"We hope to help them balance job and family commitments and unleash their potential in order to lead a fruitful life at work, in their families and in the community," he said
He also noted that the HK Government will continue to join hands with all sectors to build a caring and inclusive society where all men and women thrive and shine.
