(ECNS) --Chinese netizens expressed raging opposition and strong anger over the Japanese government after it announced to release nuclear-contaminated wastewater from the crippled Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant into the Pacific Ocean Thursday noon.
As Japan’s dumping of nuclear-contaminated wastewater became a trending topic on Chinese social media platforms, some Chinese netizens expressed indignation towards the irresponsible dumping, while others expressed concerns about Japanese food, stating that they would no longer consume products originating from Japan, including food.
“Why on earth should the entire world foot the bill for their mistakes?” a netizen said.
“They are truly despicable. Where is our blue seas?!” another netizen commented.
"Oh my god, they really have no conscience!" "The oceans belong to the world! Strongly oppose Japan's toxic discharge into the sea!" "Global villain!” others said.
According to a survey conducted by China News Network on Tuesday afternoon on the Chinese social media platform Weibo, as of the time of news release, 94 percent of respondents stated that they will no longer consume Japanese cuisine. Some netizens commented that they would also refrain from using Japanese goods.
In addition, Chinese cartoonist Wuheqilin posted an original artwork that targets Japan's blatant ocean discharge. In the image, Japan is depicted as a mutated monster, symbolizing that the nation has suffered from nuclear radiation and is now unrecognizable. The artwork portrays the monster disgorging nauseating yellow pollutants into the sea, creating a striking and disturbing image.
Titled "Are You Taking Humanity Down with You, Bastard?”, it has soon gone viral on Weibo and garnered more than 7,000 likes from followers.
“With nuclear bombs above its head and samurai armor on its body, and nuclear-contaminated water in the sea, it seems to be heading towards a path of destruction,” a netizen commented.
