(ECNS) -- Students at Chinese universities who utilize artificial intelligence to ghostwrite their academic theses may have their degrees revoked, according to a draft law on academic degrees.
The draft law on academic degrees was submitted at the Standing Committee of the 14th National People's Congress, China's top legislature, for review on Monday.
It states that individuals who have engaged in plagiarism, forgery, data fabrication in their thesis may have their degrees revoked as determined by the degree evaluation committee.
The draft specifies that behaviors such as identity theft, impersonation of others to obtain higher education admission qualifications, which constitute crimes, shall be investigated for criminal responsibility.
