(ECNS)-- The first batch of diesel and crude oil transported by the Chinese-built dual-channel single-point mooring system project arrived at Bangladeshi refineries on Saturday, marking the commercial operation of the nation's first sea-land integrated oil storage and transportation system.
The project, financed by preferential loans from the Chinese government through the Export-Import Bank of China and undertaken by China Petroleum Pipeline Engineering Co., Ltd, was completed in November 2023.
It will shorten oil unloading and transportation time involving 100,000-ton oil tankers from 11 days to about 48 hours, with an estimated annual saving of $128 million in crude oil transportation costs.
As a significant project under the Belt and Road Initiative, it will greatly alleviate Bangladesh's energy shortage and serve as a new energy transportation artery for the country.
