GX Foundation helps conduct over 7,000 cataract surgeries in Laos, Cambodia

(ECNS) -- GX Foundation, a Chinese medical humanitarian aid charitable organization established in Hong Kong in 2018, has conducted over 7,000 free cataract surgeries in Laos and Cambodia in collaboration with the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region medical team, according to the organization on Monday.

The foundation has carried out cataract blindness elimination projects in five countries -- Laos, Cambodia, Djibouti, Mauritania, and Senegal, said Leung Chun-ying, chairman of the organization and also vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, at a conference held in Nanning, capital city of Guangxi.

Leung introduced that the project in Prey Veng Province, Cambodia, is nearing completion, and there are plans to continue implementing the project in other provinces.

According to the Health Commission of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, as of this Monday, Guangxi has dispatched 13 batches totaling 108 medical personnel to Laos and Cambodia. In Laos, they have performed 3,408 free cataract surgeries, and in Cambodia, 3,597 free cataract surgeries have been conducted.

Initiated by Leung, the Foundation has completed nearly 12,000 free cataract surgeries in five countries in Southeast Asia and Africa. In addition to providing cataract surgery assistance, it also plans to implement dengue fever prevention and control projects in Timor-Leste and Honduras.
