(ECNS)-- Airbus CEO Guillaume Faury has blamed the United States for trade wars that have engulfed the global economy, according to American business magazine Fortune.
“Trade wars are in full swing. And I want to remind you that in recent years, it was not the Chinese who imposed tariffs on European aircraft, but the Americans,”Faury said.
The Airbus CEO made the remarks while speaking to German publication Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung recently.
Faury’s comments diverge from the typical stance of European CEOs, Fortune reported.
He agreed that the rise in protectionism had forced the company to engage in more “nearshoring” as a security measure for its supply chain.
Airbus currently manufactures 60 percent of its aircraft in Europe, and 20 percent each in the U.S. and China.
