(ECNS) -- Torrential rains have triggered mountain torrents in Yuanling County, central China's Hunan Province, leaving four dead and one missing, authorities said Monday.
Record rainfall reaching 337.8 mm hit Wuqiangxi Town of the county from 2 a.m. to 8 a.m. Saturday, according to the county's emergency management department.
Mountain torrents as well as severe waterlogging were triggered in the town.
As of Monday morning, four people were reported dead, with another one missing.
The county has activated an emergency response program and organized efforts for the necessity supply and power, telecommunication and transport restoration work.
Torrential rainfall has lashed parts of central and south China since June 17, triggering mudslides and flash floods.
