(ECNS) -- The Consulate General of Brazil in Chengdu officially opened on Thursday with consular districts covering Chongqing City as well as Sichuan, Guizhou, Yunnan, and Shaanxi provinces.
This is the third Brazilian consulate general in the Chinese mainland. Diplomatic relations between China and Brazil were established in 1974. In 1993, Brazil became the first developing country to form a strategic partnership with China. In 2012, the relationship was elevated to a comprehensive strategic partnership.
At the opening ceremony, Brazilian Ambassador to China, Marcos Galvao, stated that 2024 marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Brazil and China.
The establishment of the Consulate General in Chengdu holds significant importance and is expected to play a key role in further deepening cooperation between the two countries.
Thanks to the high-level operation of bilateral relations, Sichuan and various regions in Brazil maintain strong momentum in exchange and cooperation. Brazil has become Sichuan's largest trading partner in Latin America and an important partner in economic, technological, and cultural cooperation.
