(ECNS) -- Chinese Sports Culture Exhibition themed vigor and sportsmanship opened at the Bastille Design Center in Paris on Tuesday, marking the first time an Olympic-related sports culture exhibition has been organized overseas.
The exhibition illustrated the origin and development of traditional Chinese sports and the cultural exchanges between China and the rest of the world, attracting French people to visit and experience archery and other traditional Chinese sports.
"The Olympics is not only an arena for sports competition, but also a stage for cultural exchanges,” said Gao Chao, deputy secretary of Chinese Olympic Committee. He added that the exhibition can showcase the connotation of Chinese sports culture, deepening world’s understanding about China.
Wei Yueqiu, former captain of Chinese women's national volleyball team, expressed her expectation for Chinese women's volleyball team at the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympic Games. She said, “I hope the women's volleyball team can show our sportsmanship at the Games”.
This exhibition presented 139 exhibits including 10 Class A cultural relics, with some of them even dating back to the Shang Dynasty (1600 B.C.-1046 B.C.). The exhibits include ancient Chinese artifacts with sports elements, such as lacquerware, bronze vessels, calligraphy, and paintings.
