(ECNS) -- Three suspected drug traffickers, named Zhang Anlong, Ma Wenxiang and Yang Jinmei, have been apprehended in Myanmar and repatriated to China on the night of Wednesday, according to state broadcaster CCTV.
The apprehension was conducted by China's Ministry of Public Security in collaboration with Myanmar's government and the Chinese Embassy in Myanmar, showcasing the achievement of the consensus reached at the seventh China-Myanmar ministerial meeting on law enforcement and security cooperation.
China's and Myanmar's anti-drug authorities collaborated to carry out cross-border law enforcement operations resulting in the arrest of Yang Jinmei in Yangon, Myanmar, on July 9, and Zhang Anlong and Ma Wenxiang in Lashio, a town in eastern Myanmar, on July 13.
Six of the ten major drug fugitives in northern Myanmar who were wanted by public security authorities have been arrested in Myanmar so far.
Since 2020, China's public security authorities have brought to justice a host of drug traffickers by cross-border law enforcement operations especially in northern Myanmar, urging traffickers to turn themselves in and pledging to step up cross-border cooperation.
