(ECNS) -- As of the end of June, the total number of charging piles in China reached 10.244 million units, an increase of 54 percent year-on-year, according to China’s National Energy Administration (NEA) on Wednesday.
Zhang Xing, a spokesperson for the NEA, told a press conference that China's new energy vehicles (EVs) is booming, with over 24 million vehicles currently in use.
Amid strong charging demand, China is accelerating the construction of a high-quality charging infrastructure system to support the rapid development of EVs, Zhang said.
The spokesperson highlighted that by the end of June, there were 3.122 million public charging piles and 7.122 million private ones, with the total rated power of public piles exceeding 110 million kilowatts.
The coverage of the charging network is also continuously extending. Zhang pointed out that in the first half of the year, the NV charging volume nationwide was about 51.3 billion kilowatt-hours, a year-on-year increase of 40 percent.
The charging infrastructure gap in rural areas is also being rapidly addressed. According to Zhang , more than one-third of the provinces in China have deployed charging facilities in all townships, strongly supporting the promotion of new energy vehicles in rural areas.
