(ECNS)-- With news of 17-year-old Chinese diver Quan Hongchan’s victory at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, the two flame trees at the entrance to her home yard have also become a popular photo attraction.
Quan and her teammate Chen Yuxi won golds with 359.10 points in the women’s synchronized 10-meter platform diving event on Wednesday. This marks the third gold medal for China’s Olympic divers and the seventh for the Chinese sports delegation.
Quan's outstanding method of entering the water with only small ripples appearing has been dubbed "splash disappearing technique."
Her remarkable achievement has brought more attention to her hometown, Maihe Village in Zhanjiang City, Guangdong Province.
Its two flame trees have become a popular destination for visitors. In Chinese, the words for “technique” and “tree” are homophones, both pronounced “shu.” As a result, the trees have also been referred to by netizens as “splash disappearing trees,” which have become a symbol of Quan's spirit of perseverance.
Due to the increased foot traffic, some netizens have asked visitors to respect Quan’s family privacy.
Quan Wenmao, her father, noted that while his family appreciates the support, the constant influx is disrupting their daily life.
Despite the intense attention, Quan's family has shown admirable modesty. They have turned down offers of property, shops, and subsidization, choosing to rely on their orchard for livelihood.
