(ECNS) -- A truck bearing a TIR plate departed from Kashgar in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region for Dubai, the United Arab Emirates on Monday, marking the opening of the first TIR road trade route between the two cities.
Loaded with 2.1 metric tons of daily necessities, it set off from the Kashgar Area of China (Xinjiang) Pilot Free Trade Zone and will arrive in Dubai in 10 days.
"Compared with traditional transportation modes, TIR reduces the transportation time by 30 percent and the transportation costs by 15 percent,” said Wu Zhigang, general manager of a logistics company in Kashgar.
TIR, which stands for Transports Internationaux Routiers, or International Road Transport, is an international customs transit system to help save time and money for transport operators and customs authorities as goods are shipped across borders.
Wu added that since the beginning of this year, they have launched multiple TIR routes, including those connecting China with Europe, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan. “Next year, we plan to extend the routes to several inland countries in Europe.”
In May 2024, China established its first TIR assembly center in Kashgar, certified by the International Road Transport Union, paving the way for the expansion of TIR transport routes.
Data shows that in the first 11 months of this year, ports under the administration of Kashgar Customs has seen most TIR vehicles in China, accounting for approximately 20.8 percent of the country's total.
China joined the TIR Convention in July 2016 to simplify and streamline administrative formalities of international road transport.
