Stage play of the phenomenon sci-fic novel, The Three Body Problem, was shown in Beijing last week as excited fans packing the performance hall.
The sci-fic play, which wowed the audiences with modern technology including glasses-free 3D technology, holographic display and unmanned aerial vehicle, is a vivid display of the original work.
"We only made slight changes of the original novel; about 85 percent was completely original. But we have reinforced the personality of the characters and played down some of the science parts," said the play's director Liu Fangqi.
iu Cixin, author of the Three Body Problem, thought very highly of the adaptation.
"I felt quite astonished after watching the play, it is much better than I had expected," Liu said.
"Stage play is a very old form of art while sci-fic was not born until 200 years ago. The play, as I see it, is quite a fantastic chemical reaction of ancient and modern art," he said.
To ensure a complete presentation of the original play, the masterminds of the play have had many discussions with die-hard Three Body Problem fans.
He Bin, who plays scientist Wang Miao, said after the performance on August 5 in Beijing that the play took one and a half year to produce with a lot of efforts made to perfect the details.
As reported, the first 12 plays in Shanghai have topped box office revenues of 10 million yuan ($150,000). The play will continue to stun fans in Guangzhou and Shenzhen in the following weeks.
