A film co-produced by Chinese-Tibetan writer and director Pema Tseden called "Jinpa" will screen in competition in the Orizzonti (Horizons) programme of this year's Venice Film Festival. The cast includes Jinpa, Genden Phuntsok, and Sonam Wangmo, with Wong Kai Wai is the film's executive producer.
Pema Tseden's earlier film "Tharlo" was screened in the same programme at the festival three years ago.
Award-winning Chinese director Zhang Yimou's "Ying", also known as "Shadow", starring Deng Chao, Sun Li, and Zheng Kai will screen out of competition. It is due to be released in China on September 30.
The headliners at Venice this year include "Double Lives" starring Juliette Binoche and Guillaume Canet, "First Man" starring Ryan Gosling, and "The Ballad of Buster Scruggs" by the Cohen Brothers.
Chinese actress and director Sylvia Chang is one of the judges.
Italy will vie for the Golden Lion with films by Luca Guadagnino, Mario Martone, and Roberto Minervini.
This is the 75th edition of what is the world's longest running film festival. The 11 day event opens on August 29.
