"Hello Mr. Billionaire" continued to lead the Chinese box office in the week ending Aug. 5, earning about 1.04 billion yuan, China Film News reported Monday.
The domestic comedy has taken in a total of 2.02 billion yuan (295 million U.S. dollars) at the box office since hitting Chinese screens on July 27.
Second place went to Chinese suspense film "Detective Dee: The Four Heavenly Kings," earning 215 million yuan last week. It has generated 525 million yuan since its release on July 27.
Domestic animation "The Wind Guardians" came in third, raking in more than 72 million since hitting Chinese screens on Aug. 3.
Universal's "Skyscraper," starring Dwayne Johnson, took fourth place, generating nearly 54.6 million yuan last week. It has grossed 644 million yuan since being released on July 20.
Rounding out the top five was Japanese film "Shoplifters," directed by Hirokazu Kore-eda, with earnings of more than 46 million yuan since hitting Chinese screens on Aug. 3.
